On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes

and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. 2 planes hit the Twin Towers, 1 hit the Pentagon, and 1 crashed in PA. 

The attacks killed 2,977 people, injured over 6,000 others, and caused at least $10 billion in damage .

9/11 was the deadliest terrorist attacks in history and the worst foreign attack on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor .

The attacks launched a global war on terror and led to major changes in U.S. domestic and foreign policy .

Hijackers were all Saudi Arabian citizens except 1. Attacks planned and carried out by Osama bin Laden.

The attacks sparked many conspiracy theories and controversies about the events of that day .

9/11 remain a source of trauma and grief for many survivors, families, first responders, and witnesses who experienced or witnessed the horror of that day.
