4 Foolproof Tips to Save Money on Streaming Services

Streaming Services

As a hardworking adult who has to pay for everything, I literally have no problem admitting that paying for multiple streaming services can get really expensive. Between Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and others, my wallet took a real hit because I wasn’t careful. I kept subscribing to every service because of a show or movie I saw on my feed, but most of the time, I barely used them. Before I knew it, my monthly bills were piling up, and I wasn’t even enjoying everything I paid for.

Now that I have sorted my finances (thank God), I realized that there were things that I did that really helped me save money on streaming services. I’m really excited to share them with you. Let’s start!

1. Cancel what you’re not using.

I used to pay for so many streaming services at once, thinking I’d watch everything. The truth? I barely touched half of them. I was too lazy to do it, but I realized how important it is to take the time to review what I actually watch and cancel the rest, which saved me a ton of money. Even just letting go of one service you hardly use can make a noticeable difference in your monthly budget.

Because if you think about it, on top of the monthly fee you pay for the streaming services you don’t use, you also pay for other stuff like electricity, water, and your fast internet (which is so important for streaming services to work), so it will really leave a dent in your wallet.

2. Use your free trials.

Free trials feel like a little gift from streaming platforms, but so many people let them slip by. I’ve learned to pick one service at a time, enjoy it fully during the trial, and cancel before it charges me. Yep, this hack works. It’s a simple way to binge shows or movies for free, and it’s amazing how much content you can enjoy without paying a cent if you plan it right.

However, some free trials might force you to enter your payment details upfront, which can put you off a little. But you don’t need to worry because you just need to be mindful of the dates. I usually set a reminder on my phone a day or two before the trial ends, so I have time to decide whether to continue or cancel.

3. Check for student or bundled discounts.

As I’ve noticed, many streaming service providers and my neighbor’s internet provider now offer student discounts or bundle deals that can save a surprising amount of money. Even if you’re not a student, some platforms combine services like Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and others, for a lower monthly price than subscribing to each separately.

4. Avoid automatic renewals.

I’ve definitely been charged for a subscription I completely forgot about, and it stung more than I expected. Most streaming services automatically renew unless you actively turn the feature off, which means it’s easy to lose track of what you’re paying for each month. I started setting reminders on my phone to review my subscriptions a few days before they renewed. That little habit helped me catch ones I no longer use and cancel them in time.

Keep Your Wallet Happy without Sacrificing Entertainment

Earning money is tough work, so we need to keep our wallets safe while still enjoying the things we love. Cutting down on unused subscriptions, taking advantage of free trials, and finding deals or bundles doesn’t mean that you’re giving up on your favorite shows or movies. You’re just being smarter about how you spend. Good luck!
